The magnificent view of St Angelo and the night-lit bastions enclosing the Grand Harbour will make a unique backdrop for the next concert from the Friday Evening Concert Series, which is coming to an end for this season. The Best of Operatic and Neapolitan Songs is going to be held in the open-air on the promenade of the Valletta Waterfront this Friday 29 June at 9pm.
Soprano Marita Bezzina and tenor Joseph Aquilina (right) will perform the most popular and well-loved arias from the operas of Verdi and Puccini as well as popular Neapolitan songs accompanied on the piano by Lydia Buttigieg. The event is organised by Barocco Cultural Events who have organised a good number of chamber music recitals in the Sagrestia Vault.
The soprano and tenor sing in solos or in duets in some arias. Some of the arias included in the programme are Dei Miei Bollenti Spiriti and Parigi O Cara from La Traviata by Verdi, O Mio Babbino Caro and Recondite Armonia by Puccini; Pace Pace Mio Dio and La Mia Letizia Infondere by Verdi. Some of the Neapolitan songs are: Funiculi Funicula’, Non ti scordar di me, Tu che mi hai preso il cuor, La Spagnola, and O Sole Mio. Tickets cost Lm5. The Malta Tourism Authority and the Radisson SAS Bay Point St Julian’s are sponsoring this event. Thanks also go to Viset plc for their collaboration.
