I would like to reply briefly to Adriano Spiteri’s letter “Losing our identity” (TMIS, 17 June).

I would like to remind him that these countries he loves so much, such as America, England and Australia, have a lovely history.

As everyone knows, the Europeans were the illegal immigrants when they settled in America, killed quite a few indigenous Indians, and introduced their ‘Culture’ and ‘Identity’ while oppressing the original one. Those of Australia and we cannot forget New Zealand too, were Europeans who went there, killed the aborigines and introduced their ‘Culture’ and everything they wanted; now they cannot act as if they want to exclude new illegal immigrants.

Finally comes the great history of England. The British cannot forget their massacres of black people in South Africa. Who can forget the days when a black person was forced to give up his seat on a bus to a white one?

It was mostly the Europeans themselves who created the great problems Africa is facing today. They were the illegal immigrants who went to Africa, killed and stole from the inhabitants the natural wealth of their countries and then left them to their own devices with no guilt consciences about what happened afterwards. Dictators have since ruled most African countries; tribal differences and Islamic groups that want to take power like in Somalia. You cannot compare Europe and Africa.

There were a lot of people throughout the years, who were afraid to change their views and identity, but in the end society always had the chance to change and that is the best thing in life – everything has the chance to change.
