The Malta Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce is holding an open-air clarinet concert on Tuesday in the Courtyard of Palazzo De La Salle, 219 Republic Street, Valletta by the Denner Clarinet Quartet. This concert is open to the public and is free of charge.

The Denner Clarinet Quartet is today considered one of the most versatile wind quartets on these islands. It started off in 2002 as a clarinet trio but evolved into a quartet with the introduction of the bass clarinet.

In a short period, the Denner quartet established itself in the Maltese music scene, with various concerts around Malta. The main aims of the quartet are to promote clarinet chamber music, with particular interest to Maltese compositions.

Their repertoire varies from arranged baroque masterpieces to commissioned contemporary works.

The members of the quartet are Lino Pirotta on the Bb/Eb clarinet as leader and William Debattista on the Bb clarinet, Neville Pace on the Bb/Alto clarinet and Christopher Camilleri on the bass clarinet.

The programme for Tuesday will include works by Grieg (Anitra’s Dance), Carmelo Pace (L-Imnarja) and Lennon and McCartney (Yesterday) and starts at 8pm.
