‘Stagnation’ At PBS

Malta Independent Tuesday, 26 June 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

Everything at the Public Broadcasting Services was stagnating and applicants who had presented proposals for programmes on the station were still without a reply, Helena Dalli, MLP spokesperson for the public function said yesterday.

She recalled that some weeks ago, the board of directors at PBS had overturned the decision of the editorial board about programmes for the coming season and nothing had happened since. The more time passed, she argued, the worse the situation became for producers, some of whom were new and were being put at a disadvantage when it came to raising advertising for their productions.

Everything had been withdrawn, Ms Dalli said, because certain programmes were not selected by the editorial board which were made by producers who for years had been given contracts by public broadcasting. Ms Dalli wondered if the procrastination was meant to put the established producers at an advantage.
