Pauline Attard, senior executive training and development with the Water Services Corporation attended a course entitled Euphony: Implementing Teachers Knowledge organised by The Mosaic Art & Sound in the UK and held in Venice. The course was funded by the European Community Action Programme Socrates – Grundvig 3: Individual Training Grants.

The course was part of a Euphony project supported by the European Commission through the Grundtvig 1.1 action of the Socrates Programme. It aims to contribute to the personal and professional growth of potential euphony teachers and those interested in these innovative initiatives.

The seven participants – from Wales, Italy, England, Finland and Malta – learned about the use of sound and music to enhance listening skills and intuitive faculties. The participants were also made aware of research that connects Pythagorean music theory with the most recent discoveries in radio-astronomy, cymatics, music semantics and psycho-acoustics.

The course examined theoretical and practical approaches to music as a science or art by exploring its aesthetical, psychological and educational effects. It also studied the causes and effects of acoustic pollution in the daily life environment, as well as the European work dimension of the trainer team and the multi-cultural, comparative approach at the core of the Euphony methodology.

The partners taking part in this project are The Mosaic Art and Sound Ltd from the UK, UniT from Austria, the Synthesis Centre for Research and Education Ltd in Cyprus, Tempo Training & Consulting from the Czech Republic, VISIO: The Green Cultural and Educational Centre in Finland, The Associazione Mozart Italia, the Šiauliai University in Lithuania, and the University of Wales Department of Adult Continuing Education.

The Water Services Corporation’s training facilities, which are extensively used for staff training as well as for private clients, has a strong training ethic that is continuously enhanced through such trainer programmes.
