Court: Man Pleads not guilty to heroin possession with intent

A 28-year-old man from Hamrun who admitted to having a drug addiction problem, was yesterday accused of heroin possession with intent.

Elton Brincat pleaded not guilty to possession of heroin which was found in circumstances denoting it was not for his personal use. He also pleaded not guilty to breaching the conditions of a previous court judgement and to relapsing.

Magistrate Silvio Meli turned down his request for bail and he was remanded in custody.

The court heard that the accused has a drug addiction problem and recommended that while at the Corradino Correctional Facility, he begins a drug rehabilitation programme.

Police Inspector Mario Tonna prosecuted while Dr Michael Schiriha and Dr Franco Galea appeared for the accused.
