The Globalair Summer League continued on Saturday with one of the best games of the league between Marsa CC and Overseas CC.

Overseas won the toss and elected to field first on a very hot day. Mike Caruana and Javed Shah opened the batting for Marsa. Shah was first to go out scoring 21 runs from 17 balls. His wicket fell in the eighth over and the score was only 43 runs.

Ronnie Sacco came in and scored a well earned 47 runs from 39 balls. Caruana who batted through the whole hot innings scored 66 runs from 63 runs. Kieth Abernathy was the only wicket taker for the Overseas. The highlight of day was the fielding of junior player Danny Holland (13 years old) who fielded brilliantly for the Overseas saving more than 15 runs in the field. The highlight of his fielding came when he ran ten metres and dived and stopped the ball. The batsmen only managed one run thinking that it was going to be four runs. Well done Danny Holland.

The run chase was started by Glen Tavilla smashing 31 runs from 20 balls including three fours and one six before being bowled. Phil Gibbs scored 15 runs from 22 balls, Greg O’Shea 12 from eleven runs and Kieth Abernathy 13 from 17 balls.

The runs were ticking along nicely for the Overseas and with Adrian Collyer and Grant Williams making light work of the bowling things looked grim for the Marsa team. A bowling change had Collyer caught for 19 runs. Overseas now needed 18 runs from two overs and Williams in fine form.

Williams was dropped twice in the second last over and managed to make nine runs from the over. Nine runs were needed from the last over. With the first three balls, Williams managed to make six runs, then an error was made and only single was taken leaving the inexperienced batsman on strike needing three runs for the win. He was bowled and the last batsman could not connect the ball. Williams managed to make 50 runs not out from 31 runs but Marsa won the game.
