Having digested with some difficulty Mr Joseph S. Ellul’s dissertation Names of the Maltese islands and the flood (TMID, 27 June) concerning epic floods, I leave it to your readers to judge whether he has succeeded in proving that the Maltese islands were named by the post-diluvian Phoenicians after the names of seeds “after the flood”. And I leave it at that.
