Well done Marisa Micallef for a brilliant contribution about the protests of the middle class and the Ramla development blunder(s) (TMIS, 24 June).

The hard-working middle class, however, is also affected sometimes by ad hoc belated policies adopted by her very own Authority. I refer to plots in the government housing schemes of the 80s. Today, purchasers of these houses are being subjected to unfair new clauses in the re-transfer of these lands. The sellers who most of the time are the true beneficiaries (being the original owners) and who are now making hefty profits out of the sale of these subsidised projects in the 1980s, are being overlooked, while the scheme is now being taxed on a carry forward principle (!) for the hard-working families and their heirs.

What kind of democratic country would do such a thing. Doing an injustice to try and correct another one is surely not good governance and it is unbecoming in any modern democracy.
