Maltese Shooters in ISSF World Cup in Slovenia

Today was the first day of the Trap competition in Maribor, Slovenia where Maltese shooters are taking part in The ISSF World Cup 2007.

Trap shooters from all around the world today shot three rounds of 25 clays each.

Tomorrow morning, they will be in action again for another two rounds, with the best six shooter qualifying for a barage final in the afternoon.

Maltese trap shooter Stanley Cardona managed 24,20,24 for a total of 68/75, George Cassar scored 19,23,24 for a total of 66/75, while Joe Cutajar managed 19,20,17 for a score of 56.

In the standings, Cardona lies in 53rd place, Cassar is 72nd and Cutajar way back in 106th place. 110 shooters are taking part in the competition.

Leading the standings are Italy’s Massimiliano Mola, Germany’s Stefan Tuettgeroth and Hamad Alkendi of the United Arab Emirates with a high score of 74.

William Chetcuti will be shooting in The Double Trap event on Tuesday alongside the best double trap shooters in the world. He is accompanied by his coach Jimmy Bugeja and the MSSF President, Saviour Portelli.
