Music: Tenishia’s Big break

Malta Independent Wednesday, 4 July 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 15 years ago

Maltese duo Tenishia has extended its musical reach into the international dance scene with the release of a new tune, Outsiders, a project featuring former Opus III vocalist, Kirsty Hawkshaw.

Having Hawkshaw on board was a particularly big boost for the local lads, especially because the British singer has a significant track record over and above her contribution to making It’s A Fine Day a classic dance anthem back in the 1990s!

Locally, Joven Grech and Cyprian Cassar, the two names behind Tenishia, have built up a steadfast reputation in a matter of only a few years by way of regular DJ gigs and a weekly radio show (which unfortunately came to an untimely end!) They also won the Best Newcomer Award and Malta’s Best Live Performance at the Bay Music Awards in 2005.

More recently they had started focusing more on producing original material, most of which was readily available, but only in digital format. With new recording Outsiders, however, Tenishia’s career makes a big leap forward, as this tune has been released internationally on Armada Records, and is now available in vinyl, CD and digital format.

The new track was included by Pete Tong in his Essential Selection radio show on the BBC, and has been played by several top DJs, including Paul Van Dyk, Armin Van Buuren, Ferry Corsten and Tiesto as well as being included on Dave Pearce’s Delirium compilation for Ministry of Sound. Armada Records will soon start promoting Tenishia’s follow-up release, Reasons To Forgive, once again featuring Kirsty Hawkshaw. In past weeks, Tenishia finished two new remixes; Symphony of Soul by Headstrong and featuring Tiff Lacey, and Sum of All Fears by Matt Darey, which also features Tiff Lacey. Both remixes were played by Armin Van Buuren on A State of Trance (302 and 303), while Symphony of Soul has also been released on Sola Recordings. The Sum of All Fears remix should be available soon on the Nocturnal CD Compilation!

On Thursday, Tenishia featured in the world-famous Global DJ Broadcast The Ibiza Summer Sessions with Markus Schulz, a show that features exclusive sets by some of the world’s top DJs and dance producers. The broadcast was streamed online at www.di.fm. The Maltese duo presented a very special mix that included some new tunes as well as a new mix of a classic cut, a new tune by Jan Johnston and some of their own exclusive DJ-set only remixes and mash-ups!
