The Gozo Tourism Association yesterday welcomed the introduction of the new Airport-Cirkewwa shuttle service as announced yesterday by ministers Austin Gatt and Giovanna Debono, and Gozo Channel chairman Joe Borg. This service is an added facility directed towards the enhancement of accessibility to and from Gozo of both tourists and locals alike.

The Gozo Tourism Association has been promoting the idea of a link between the airport and Cirkewwa since 2001, when it listed the idea as one of the priorities under tourism in the Special Needs Assessment Study for Gozo commissioned by the European Commission during the EU pre-accession period.

Apart from being an alternative means of commuting between Malta International Airport and Cirkewwa and vice-versa, the Gozo Tourism Association believes that this bus service will present Gozo as a more competitive destination. Apart from the fare factor, the fact that this is a non-stop bus journey, will entice not only the individual foreign traveller but even the Gozitans travelling through MIA.

The Gozo Tourism Association noted that this is the latest in a series of initiatives taken by the government aimed at facilitating tourism in Gozo.

Finally, while thanking Gozo Channel Co. Ltd for their continuous support and for the running of this service, the association hoped that this new initiative is run professionally to ensure quality service in order for it to result in an additional convenience for the benefit of the Gozo-bound commuter.
