A motorbike rider is in critical condition after being involved in a traffic accident in Hal Far Road, Birzebbuga, on Monday evening.

The police said that at about 8.30pm, a Yamaha motorbike being driven by a 29-year-old man from Santa Venera crashed into a van. To avoid hitting the bike, another rider, 26, this time on a Honda, also lost control.

The two young men were taken to hospital. The Honda driver was reported to have suffered from serious injuries, while the Yamaha driver was reported to be in critical condition following the serious injuries sustained. His condition improved overnight but yesterday the police said he was still in intensive care.

Police investigations are still under way.
