Valletta made their sixth significant signing yesterday when they acquired the services of central defender Kenneth Scicluna.

The Malta international joined Valletta on a five-year contract, after an eight-year spell with Birkirkara.

The 28-year old defender started with Luqa St. Andrew’s before joining St Patrick were he came to the fore making his Premier League with the Zabbar side in season 1998-99.

Kenneth Scicluna joined the Stripes in season 1999-2000, and was a regular choice in the past seasons. He spent a short spell on loan with First Division side Qormi.

For free spending Valletta now under President Victor Sciriha, this was their sixth significant signing after the return of Sliema midfielder Stefan Giglio and Argentine striker Sebastian Monesterolo. Other signings were Pieta goalkeeper Andrew Hogg, Msida defender Josef Mifsud and German midfielder Heiner Backhaus.

Valletta are said to be in search of a striker to partner Monesterolo, with Sliema’s Ivan Woods as their main target.
