The Malta Pool team had mixed fortunes yesterday in the world championships being held in Blackpool
Malta lost against North Ireland but had the better of west Indies.
In their first match against North Ireland Maltese were beaten by North Ireland 11-10. Malta lost two frames after two rather controversial decisions by the referee.
Malta’s best player was Mario Vassallo who registered three wins.
Clint Azzopardi and Kevin Mercieca obtained two victories each with the other points coming from Clayton Attard, Ivan Rizzo, and Kevin Schembri.
In the second match played yesterday malta had the better of West Indies winning easily 14-7. Stephen Mangion and Iro Vella obtained three victories, Kevin Schembri, Ivan Rizzo and Clint Azzopardi obtained two whilst Mario Vassallo and Jesmond Schembri obtained a win each.
Malta had impressed in the first game on the opening day when they beat world champions Ireland 14-7.
News were not good for the under-18 team who suffered two defeats against British opposition.
In their first match against North Ireland, the Maltese youngsters played very well but had to bow their heads to superiour opposition losing 9-6.
In the second match against Scotland, the Maltese were not as brilliant and were easily beaten 10-5.
