The Rifffs, famous for their single Dance Music for the 80s depression, are back with a vengeance with the release of their new single Jack The Ripper.

After an absence of over a year, The Rifffs will release a new single this month entitled Jack the Ripper. This offering reconfirms their position as Malta’s most powerful and influential band.

Penned by the multi-talented Ray Mercieca, and produced by the equally talented Howard Keith at Farmhouse Studios, the song possesses a catchy tune driven to extreme by Najju’s drumming, Cooks’ punchy bass line, Rayvin’s ever-present rhythm guitar and Fauré’s keyboards. Ray’s trademark guitar riffs give the song a boost and his vocals can be considered as the best he has ever produced and invoke a spine-tingling rendition of Jack’s own challenge “You won’t catch me”. A new ingredient, in the form of a brass section, has been added to the song which added to this unique sound and can be considered as the band’s best offering to date.

“There has always been something special about The Rifffs” says Ray. “Our songs sound powerful and fresh as if it we have only just started playing together as a band and this song is a prime example”. Jack the Ripper will blow your socks off!”

The subject matter of the song is self-explanatory – a slightly humourous view, if there can be one, of the gruesome murders that took place in late Victorian London and which are still unsolved.

The Rifffs will be appearing live at the Beer Festival at Ta’ Qali on Sunday, 29 July.
