Alfred E. Baldacchino DPA, DES, PGD Env Mangt, MSc Env Mangt & Plan, has taken up the post of Project Director (Communication, Education and Public Awareness) at the Institute for Environment Studies (IES).

Mr Baldacchino studied at the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology, St Michael’s Teachers Training College and the University of Malta. He has worked as a government official for more than 30 years and has held various senior posts in the Environment Protection Department and the Environment Protection Directorate within the Malta Environment and Planning Authority.

His most recent post was that of Assistant Director (Nature Protection Unit) in the Environment Protection Directorate of Mepa. Mr Baldacchino is the author of a number of publications on flora and fauna and habitats of the Maltese Islands, and also has experience in the production and coordination of radio and television programmes.

His role at the IES is to direct the development and implementation of

projects concerning communication, education and public awareness about the environment.

The IES is an independent private organisation that is active within areas of environmental education and research.
