European Commissioner responsible for transport Jacques Barrot praised the Maltese government for the investment that is being made in the development of the road network in Malta, an Urban Development and Roads Ministry statement said yesterday.
In a meeting with Minister Jesmond Mugliett, Commissioner Barrot expressed his satisfaction at the “intelligent way” in which the Maltese government had made use of funds made available by the European Union. He said the Maltese government was investing 1.5 per cent of the gross domestic product on roads, while the EU average was 0.9 per cent. Malta’s investment in environment-friendly transport was also discussed at the meeting.
