The Gozo Tourism Association and the Gozo Business Chamber said they would like to show their approval of the news that, from 2009, Malta will be able to appoint another Maltese to the European Parliament. It is the wish of both the GTA and the GBC, they said, that the authorities consider giving an opportunity for this additional MEP to be elected from the region of Gozo.

As things stand, although Gozo is one third the size of the geographical area of Malta it has only around eight per cent of the total population of the Maltese Islands, therefore making it very difficult for a Gozitan to ever make it to the European Parliament. The extra MEP elected from Gozo would be a guarantee that Gozo’s needs and problems will be aired in the European Parliament.
