From J. Vella
It is time our new archbishop moves past the cheering and applause stage and shows the Maltese public that he leads an institution with some sort of social conscience. He should immediately ban all fireworks at feasts. He should do this, first and foremost, to protect the innocent victims of those foolhardy individuals, whose daily dicing with death ends up leaving grieving, bereaved spouses trying to cope with young orphaned children.
He should maintain this ban for as long it as takes to seriously conduct a review of the whole fireworks production process to see if we can still manufacture fireworks in this country without deaths occurring every year.
If he doesn’t, then on his conscience be the victims this so called industry will, with certainty, claim in the years to come.
