I write these few lines in the hope that something will be done urgently to solve the parking problem in the vicinity of The Radisson Hotel at Ghajn Tuffieha.

Attending a reception or a function at this prestigious five-star resort has become a nightmare. After parking the car one needs to walk quite a considerable distance to the hotel. If lucky, you may just find a space in a field.

To add insult to injury, the area is in complete darkness and very unsafe to walk to the hotel and back on your own. The winter months of course make things even worse because of the muddy ground, not to mention the puddles on the road.

There is a sizeable piece of land next to the Golden Sands Hotel, with a gate, which I understand is used by the Scouts Movement. Perhaps it could be suitably illuminated and manned by a resident car park attendant. I am sure it would be a great relief to all and sundry if adequate parking facilities are available at such a popular site. At the same time it would earn a few pounds and help the scouts with other projects.

Many people of an advanced age who wish to attend a wedding reception or other social function at The Radisson Golden Sands Hotel may feel deterred on realising the existing danger.

Walking alone in pitch darkness to their car left in a field far away from the venue can be very dangerous and scary.

It is sincerely hoped that this appeal will not fall on deaf ears and that the powers that be will look into the matter urgently and allocate sufficient funds at least to illuminate this area of Ghajn Tuffieha.

This will not only embellish the surrounding grounds next to one of Malta’s top hotels it will also afford a measure of security and peace of mind. Some months ago, this resort hosted CHOGM and to this day continues to grow in popularity locally and abroad. The Minister of Tourism would be wise to visit this site after dark in order to understand better the danger that exists.

Very urgent action must be taken to remedy this situation before somebody gets hurt or accosted in the darkness of the night.
