‘Skolasport’ Ends with a display of sport disciplines

Malta Independent Monday, 9 July 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Skolasport, a programme organised by Kunsill Malti ghall-iSport and sponsored by Kellogg’s, is an initiative that aims to increase the participation in sports among children and teenagers, and to encourage them to lead a healthier and more active lifestyle. It has become the starting point for many children in their discovery and enjoyment of sport, some of which develop into successful athletes as adults.

The scholastic year 2006-2007 of Skolasport ended with an annual Manifestation Day, which is a day filled with games and entertainment for its Skolasport participants and their parents at the Cottonera Sports Complex. Over 1,000 children, together with their parents, were present for this event.

The activity included a series of mini-games in the main hall for children between five and seven years, and outdoor games for the other participants, followed by an entertainment programme which consisted of a demonstration of techniques and skills by Skolasport’s Performance Groups in the various disciplines, a performance by the Skolasport Modern Dance Group, as well as performances by Klinsmann Coleiro, the Annalise Modern Jazz Group, and Olivia Lewis.

Skolasport activities will resume on Saturday 13 October. For more information on the activities of Skolasport and the next scholastic year, visit www.
