A fire broke out at the Armed Forces of Malta Maritime Squadron’s base in Haywharf early

yesterday morning.

Two AFM seamen were hospitalised for urgent treatment, and one is under medical observation for burns received during the incident.

The fire broke out on a fibreglass boat during preparatory work in connection with a maritime security operation.

The Maritime Squadron’s shore personnel immediately tackled the blaze, using portable extinguishers and water-hoses.

The fibreglass boat was completely destroyed and some equipment was partially damaged. The Civil Protection Department’s fire section personnel were soon on site and later succeeded in extinguishing the blaze entirely.
