Msida goalkeeper Omar Borg became a Birkirkara player yesterday after the two Premier League sides agreed on a deal.

The signing was confirmed to The Malta Independent by Stripes chairman Victor Zammit.

Borg, a long time target of the Stripes, therefore joins last year’s team-mate at Msida, midfielder Paul Fenech, who moved to Birkirkara FC earlier this summer.

The goalie is rated among the best on the island and he seems to be an ideal substitute for Polish goalie Andrzej Bledzewski whose contract was not extended this season.

Meanwhile, as has already been published in this newspaper some time ago, Birkirkara have registered a second foreigner. He is Danish central defender Ronald Hardvich who has left a very good impression on coach John Buttigieg during the past four weeks during which he has been training with the club.

He is the second foreigner for the Stripes who have also welcomed back Bulgarian defender Emil Yantchev after his one-year move to Marsa.

The Stripes are now looking forward to signing a third foreigner, who is expected to be a striker. Club chairman Victor Zammit said yesterday they were expecting some players from abroad next week for trials with the club.
