Malta Independent Wednesday, 11 July 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

A taxi driver was yesterday remanded in custody after pleading not guilty to sexually and indecently assaulting a woman police constable at the Hamrun police station on Monday morning.

Gordon Dimech, 30, from Hamrun, was charged with sexually assaulting the policewoman when he went to the police station at 1.40am to sign his bail book on a pending court case he has.

He was also accused of committing a crime during the operative term of a suspended jail term and relapsing.

The court, presided over by Magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna, ruled that Mr Dimech was not trustworthy and therefore turned down his request for bail and was remanded in custody.

Police Inspector Mario Tonna prosecuted while Dr Anglu Farrugia and Dr Joseph Giglio appeared for the accused.
