A Sudanese man was being treated for serious injuries at St Luke’s Hospital after being found bleeding by the police in a Paceville street.

The Sudanese was initially reported to have been in critical condition but a police statement issued late in the afternoon said that his condition had improved.

It was discovered he had been involved in a fight with another man in which cutting instruments had been used.

The police said they had been informed that a person lay injured in Paceville and they went to the spot indicated in Wilga Street. In a search in an Msida apartment, the second man involved in the argument was found and he too was taken to hospital for treatment to some injuries he had.

Both men are Sudanese.

While searching the apartment, the police added, they also found an amount of cannabis. A third foreigner found in the building was taken into custody. Duty Magistrate Silvio Meli appointed various experts to help in the inquiry.

Two other foreigners were found by district police in Moletta Street, Swieqi during the night.

The police said the two, both Libyan, did not have the necessary permits to live in Malta. They were arrested.
