‘The National Orchestra Goes Pop’

The National Orchestra Goes Pop concert will take place at the Mediterranean Conference Centre on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 July under the musical direction of Sigmund Mifsud.

The concert will feature a 60-piece orchestra performing a range of Maltese and international numbers together with some of Malta’s leading popular entertainers. It falls under the umbrella of the Music Jam events by Vodafone Malta Ltd, the concert’s main sponsor.

This year’s National Orchestra Goes Pop with Vodafone will feature nine local guest artists giving more variety of styles, fusing different genres of music in one event. Local established vocalists and young Maltese talent will accompany the National Orchestra. The line-up of artists for this year includes Nadine Axisa, Eleanor Cassar, Ludwig Galea and Lello and will interpret numbers from the repertoires of Pink Floyd, Christina Aguilera, Stevie Wonder and Michael Buble. The duo Chasing Pandora will also perform two of their songs from their latest album.

The orchestra will be led by Marcelline Agius.

“This year’s The National Orchestra Goes Pop concert will be part of three weeks of cultural and artistic activities which are being organised in Valletta as part of the Malta Arts Festival – Summer 2007. As from its inception, this concert was a great success and for this reason, it is organised on a yearly basis. The main scope of this concert is to attract Maltese youths to the National Orchestra. At the same time, The National Orchestra Goes Pop appeals to persons of all ages,” said Tourism and Culture Minister Francis Zammit Dimech.

The National Orchestra Goes Pop concert will begin at 9pm. Tickets for the event are available from the box office of the Mediterranean Conference Centre or by calling on tel.: 2559-5750/1 or ticket hotline 9977-4400. Tickets cost Lm6 (Stalls) and Lm8 (Dress Circle). A discount will be given to all Vodafone customers, students’ card holders and to senior citizens who present the kartanzjan.
