The first division of this competition, which is once again being sponsored by Island Beverages Co. Ltd, is now definitely drawing to its close. Five top local female players are vying with each other over two rounds.
Didi Rasamayii, the Dutch player who is on the books of Pawla Wolves Schtag, has won this season's First Division ladies' title.
She has managed to preserve her unbeaten record and, with two fixtures still to play, she leads the table with twelve points from her six matches so far.
In her latest fixture, Rasamayii overcame the challenge posed by fourth-placed Fiorella Farrugia, whom she defeated 21/8 21/6.
Rasamayii has opened up an unassailable lead over second-placed Maria Borg (B'Kara BC), who lies five points adrift of the leader. With three wins and a draw from six matches on her record, Borg has seven points to her credit with two more fixtures still to play.
Positive results in her remaining commitments could well award Borg the runner-up berth, just a single point behind the title winner.
Joanne Vella, who is on the books of Shuttles Fort Blocks BC, is in third place with five points to her credit; she obtained two wins and a draw from her eight matches. Vella has now finished her commitments in this division and therefore cannot add any more points to her tally.
Vella's current third placing may therefore be challenged by joint fourth-placed Fiorella Farrugia and Rachel Attard, both hailing from B'Kara BC.
Farrugia has secured four points so far, with a win and two drawn results from seven matches. A positive outcome in her last fixture would enable her to leapfrog over Vella.
Attard is similarly on the four-point mark, with two wins from five matches. With three fixtures still to play, she could actually travel further up the table than her team mate.
