A Libyan irregular migrant was yesterday charged with attempting to rape another irregular migrant residing at the Ta’ Kandja Detention Centre.
Ali Mohammed Hassan, 37, was charged with attempting to rape another male migrant – whose name cannot be published by court order – sexually assaulting him and slightly injuring him on Sunday. He was also charged with relapsing and breaching a suspended jail term.
Before Magistrate Giovanni Grixti, the Libyan migrant pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.
Police Inspector Edel Mary Camilleri said the alleged victim was found unconscious and when spoken to by the police, he told them that the accused had been trying to rape him for a long time, especially when he is asleep.
The man was remanded in custody.
Dr Renzo Porsella Flores appeared for the accused.
