The Transport Federation yesterday condemned the Urban Development and Roads Minister and the Transport Authority for issuing two new permits for the carriage of corpses, because, it said, there was no need for them.
The federation represents the Public Transport Association, the White Taxis Amalgamated and the Hearse Association.
It also drew the authorities’ attention to breaches of the law which it said were being committed by two new operators in the sector, who operate the open-top buses and the electric mini-cabs. Work was being carried out in violation of the schedule issued by the Transport Authority itself, the federation said.
The federation called for an end to all abuses and insisted it should be consulted on any measure intended to be introduced in the transport sector, even if it was new permits.
