The annual Malta Volleyball Association presentation was held last Friday at the Luxol Sports Complex in St. Andrew’s.

Among the distinguished guests were Malta Olympic Committee President Mr Justice Lino Farrugia Sacco and Secretary General Joseph Cassar.

In a short speech, MVA president David Falzon thanked the council members present and all clubs for the great work done during last season.

This work augurs well for the MVA and volleyball to keep on going from strength to strength in the coming years.

The presentation night was dominated by the ladies team, Paola Hibs Candy (photo) as their senior squad won all four senior competitive events during the 2006/2007 season while the under 18 squad finished runners up.

Their under 15 team also won their category. The Paolites also won all best player awards; the under 15 won by Roxette Caruana, under 18 won by Sherika Seychell and senior category won by Alison Borg Hayman. Hibs coach David Bonnici won the coach of the year award and the senior team won Best Team.

The presentation night also sealed a successful year for Aloysians. The male teams won the under 15, under 18 and senior league categories together with the Super Cup while in the individual awards, Alex Spiteri won best U-18 player award, and David Caruana the best player award in the seniors category.

The National Cup was presented to winners Fleur de Lys FEB while the Ghaqda Kittieba Sports Cup was presented to Kerygma.

The Official of the Year award was won by Tony Sammut and the Andrea Onori Best Referee Award went to international referee Antonello Calleja. This year, a special award for dedication was presented to Joe Casha, in recognition of his commitment to the game of volleyball.
