Malta Independent Thursday, 12 July 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

The Gozo Snooker League 2007 organised by the Gozo Snooker Club (Leone Band Club, Victoria) came to an end with the final game last Thursday between former champion Jason Vassallo and Mario Apap who, incidentally, happens to be coordinator of the league.

More than 70 players were organised in five divisions – 3rd, 2nd, 1st and Premier.

There was another division for Billiards.

Vassallo emerged as the winner for the third consecutive time, winning the final by seven frames to four at a time when Apap seemed to be giving Vassallo a bit of a hard time. Vassallo, however, ably concluded successfully.

Trophies were presented by Matthew Sultana, president of the Aurora Youth Movement on behalf of Leone Band Club president Dr Michael Caruana, Mario Apap, league coordinator and Charles Azzopardi who sponsored the Billiards trophies. event Sultana announced that the 2008 snooker season will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the first snooker tables in Gozo owned by the Leone Band Club – the same snooker tables on which this league was played.
