Mohamad Malik, a 25-year-old man from Chad, was yesterday afternoon arraigned before Magistrate Dr. C. Scerri and charged with various crimes which he allegedly committed at around 2am in St Julian's last Tuesday.

Among the charges brought against Malik are: attempted murder; causing serious injuries with a sharp and pointed instrument; being in possession of a sharp and pointed instrument without the necessary police licence; breaking the public peace; and escaping from public custody on 17 May 2006.

Malik pleaded not guilty and was sent to Corradino Correctional Facility.
