Gymstars Gymnastics Club registered the best result ever since its foundation in 2003, when very recently six young girls from the club were outstanding in an international competition held in Deventer in Holland,the Framvesod Open.
With their enthusiasm and energy, they surprised everybody and rose to the occasion by attaining an excellent result, winning the team competition in both categories and also gaining podium awards in the individual events.
Such results are a credit to the club and give and indication that these young athletes – future champions – are maintaining their upward graph.
They are now ready and in high spirit to give another satisfactory performance during the international competition being organised by the club later this month.
Credit must also be given to the two Bulgarian coaches, Plamen Angelov Peynov and Antonina Uzunova who prepared these athletes for the event. Also one must mention Antonina, Ivelina Dimitrova and Alsion Bird who made the choreography for the girls.
In the team competition, Category B2, Kirsty Caruana, Adreana Zammit and Martina Galea garnered 128.85 points to win first place beating six other teams. In the other category, the Malta team composed of Mia Vickery, Tara Dalli and Nicole Pace, gained 151.1 points, enough to beat the other teams and win the gold medal.
In the individual events, in Category B, Kirsty Caruana and Adreana Zammit did very well in sharing the second place overall with a total of 43.9 points each. However, Kirsty gained two bronze medals on the vault and bars, whilst Adreana won a bronze on the beam. Martina Galea although finishing ninth overall, was outstanding on the beam, gaining the gold medal.
In the other category, Mia Vickery managed an excellent result winning second place overall and was also awarded second place on vault and beam and third on base; Nicole Pace also did well in finishing third overall with gold medals on vault and floor and third on beam, while Tara Dalli 7th overall, had her best on floor by finishing fourth.
Bronze in Monaco
The club recently honoured and showed its appreciation to the athletes that took part in the Monaco Small Nations Games for their satisfactory performance, especially Philip Caruana Turner who made history, winning a bronze medal. The other athletes were Audrey Schembri, Francesca Borg and Roxanne Bonnici.
