Choirs Perform in unique setting

Malta Independent Saturday, 14 July 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

This month the Edinburgh University Chamber Choir (EUCC), under the direction of Dr Eric von Ibler, visited Malta and gave several performances in Valletta and Victoria, Gozo. The choir regularly travels all over the world and recently has visited New York and Hong Kong.

Dr von Ibler is a good friend of local conductor Johanna van Lent-Singels, who directs EnKor. Therefore last Friday, EUCC and EnKor had a very special meeting at which both choirs took turns to sing pieces from their repertoire at different locations in and around Villa Santa Maria in High Ridge.

The EUCC sang Allegri’s Miserere, which is for split choir, from the top of the roof and from one of the balconies, lit by candlelight. A heavenly atmosphere was created. They performed more beautiful pieces Also in the atrium of the house, while EnKor treated the Scottish singers to Händel, Maltese and African music as well as, of course, a selection of the gospel songs in which the choir specialises. EUCC joined in and both choirs sang together until late at night.

EnKor will perform today live at 7.30pm during Ohloq Tbissima, in aid of the missions in Peru, the Philippines and Pakistan, and also for St Joseph’s Home in St Venera.
