It can be regarded as something of an achievement that, despite being surrounded by so many different cultures, the Jewish culture has retained a unique and instantly recognisable trait.

When it comes to music, however, the story is somewhat different, as in this field the impact and influence of the culture clash has managed to seep into Jewish music, with the result that there is a vast and diverse range of styles, shaped through centuries of interaction between the cultures.

Pop, jazz, folk and the homegrown Klezmer and Mizrahi are just a few of the styles that form the core of today’s Jewish musical heritage, which continues to evolve with every Jewish community that blends into places all over the world.

This is where A Jewish Odyssey basically takes its inspiration from – the fusion of Jewish roots with the culture of different countries where Jewish communities have settled for years and years. The result is 11 tracks that present Jewish melodies from different perspectives, namely the USA, the UK, Italy, Turkey, Chile, Cuba, Canada, Brazil and even Morocco.

This collection is crowned with the presence of the late Israeli star Ofra Haza, whose folky Rachamim is the only pure Jewish representation here.
