From H E the Italian Ambassador P. A. Trabalza
I read carefully the article by Prof. Alfred J. Baldacchino entitled “Revisiting the Excelsior saga” (TMIS, 1 July) and once again experienced the same sorrow I feel every time I hear about this seemingly unending saga.
I personally appealed to the Prime Minister in office some time ago, reminding him that the Italian government was also interested in seeing the matter brought to a conclusion according to the truth.
If I remember correctly, I had been told that Mr Martone’s claim and rights were not contested and the matter would soon been closed.
Like many others, I am still waiting to report to my government that the Italian citizen’s rights have been recognised and his long wait has finally come to an end.
I avail myself of this occasion to thank among others, Prof. Alfred J. Baldacchino, for his humane sensibilities.
