Lately, the committee of the Birzebbuga Aquatic and Sports Club organised two activities aimed at strengthening the interest in this southern club.

A reunion for ex-players and members was successfully organised, during which all present had the opportunity to exchange past memories and also ask questions about the new project which will see the Birzebbuga pitch taking a new lease of life. The committee members gave the necessary explanations and there was common agreement that the club needed all the help to make a much desired comeback.

Last Sunday, a nursery was launched from among children hailing from this southern village. An encouraging number of parents attended for this launch which will see the children receiving lessons in swimming and waterpolo at the National Pool Complex through the services of ex-players like Charles Borg who is the manager, Simon Cutajar, head coach, Alfio Tabone, who is also the Vice-President of the club, and Manolito Buhagiar, an ex-player and member of the committee. Other ex-players who, although not forming part of the committee, still offered their assistance.

The aim of the club is to identify potential swimmers that can form part of the locality’s team to compete in both local waterpolo competition and swimming events. About 40 youngsters of between 9 and 14 years old are taking part in this nursery. Due to the limited space available to the club at the National Pool, the number of participants had to be restricted.
