Malta lost narrowly 9-7 against Poland in a keenly contested match in the European B Championships in Manchester yesterday.
It was a match in connection with the play-offs for the seventh to tenth placings. In the other match, Turkey beat Israel 12-10.
In yesterday’s match, the Poles took a 2-0 lead in the first session and increased that margin by a further two goals after winning the second session 4-2.
The Malta side fought back strongly in the third session, scoring three times without reply to come back into contention, but despite everything, Malta lost the final session 3-2 for the Poles to win by a two-goal margin.
Malta’s goals in yesterday’s match were netted by S. Camilleri (3), M. Zammit (2), J. Borg and M. Stellini.
According to some reports from Manchester, Malta had several man-up chances to turn the score in their favour, but missed several of them.
