The Consumer and Competition Division (CCD) of the Ministry for Competitiveness and Communications wants to lead by example by conducting environmental reviews of its current operations and services, and by taking tangible action, according to Joseph Callus, Assistant Director, at the launching of new environment initiatives by the division.
Besides educating consumers about their environmental responsibilities and promoting “green consumerism”, the organisation is pursuing a strict policy to that effect.
It is for this purpose that this year, several working groups have been set up within the division, covering specific yet inter-related issues, aimed to improve environmental protection, health and safety, and service quality initiatives, geared towards one goal – providing a greener, more efficient and sustainable service.
The initiatives were officially launched to commemorate the level of commitment among employees of the CCD, and to ensure that all the employees, whatever their role, become aware that they are part of these initiatives.
A certificate was awarded to Jean Pierre Fava B.Sc. (Hons), M.Sc., whose design had been chosen to serve as the CCD environmental logo, following an internal competition.
The programme of initiatives that has just been launched is perceived by most as being a vital element of CCD’s corporate social responsibility and another step towards better and more responsible governance. The focus is in fact on reducing waste and misuse of resources.
The CCD environmental management team will be monitoring the progress of all the initiatives and reporting back to all the employees through ad hoc internal bulletins and environmental reports.
