MLP Councils providing for small clique of friends – PN college of councillors

Malta Independent Wednesday, 18 July 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

The Nationalist Party’s college of councillors said that where the Labour Party had a majority, it was providing only for a small clique of close friends.

This was proved by the employment of

former MLP general secretary Jimmy Magro as executive secretary of the Association of Local Councils.

In his position as MLP general secretary, Mr Magro had, the college recalled, led the campaign against the Nationalist Party taking part in local elections. Now he has been employed by the Labour majority on the association. He would be earning Lm10,000.

This was in line with what the current MLP general secretary, Jason Micallef, had said on radio, that the MLP would follow an “eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth”

policy.

The college said the Local Councils Association represented councillors of all political parties, so the post of executive secretary should be occupied by someone who was trusted by all the political parties.
