Music: SCREAM DAISY - Bees

The fact that during the past few months there have only been sporadic appearances on the live circuit by Scream Daisy sparked off the odd rumour about what was going on in their camp. In actual truth, there was a lot going on, and the diminished public profile was brought on by none other than the pressing demands of writing and recording a new album. Any available moment during the past months was in fact spent writing, rehearsing and recording down at Temple Studios! The first fruit of the band’s hard labour is the brand new single, Bees, which was officially released last week. The new song makes it clear from the get-go that the new line-up, which now also includes original member Lincoln and Muzzle guitarist Jeremy in its ranks, has its musical sights focused way beyond anything they’ve released to date.

Relatively upbeat and as catchy as you’d expect a Scream Daisy song to be, Bees also possesses a certain British feel to it that sets it apart from anything they’ve recorded to date, not in any one particular way, but rather in the overall sense of the song. It has been heard in the grapevine that Scream Daisy have been reworking their sound with an edgier, modern rock approach, and frankly, Bees is as good a pointer towards this new direction as any. Recorded with producer David Vella, who was also involved in the band’s debut album, the new single apparently just came together by accident rather than design, at least according to Scream Daisy’s singer, Jotham, but as long as it sounds great, it’s all good!
