Two unlicensed car park attendants have been caught red-handed asking for gratuities within the confines of the Controlled Vehicular Access zone in Valletta and are to be taken to court, the Malta Transport Authority said.

The authority said that since the introduction of the CVA system for Valletta in May, and following extensive consultation with the UHM as representatives of the car park attendants, all the attendants have been relocated to areas outside the CVA charging zone.

As a result, no one is permitted to work as a car park attendant inside the zone.

The authority said it had been reported that, despite the introduction of the pay-as-you-go scheme, “unlicensed car park attendants” were still asking people for gratuities.

The introduction of the CVA system for Valletta entailed the relocation of the licensed car park attendants who used to work in Valletta. But over the past two weeks, two unlicensed attendants had been caught red-handed asking for gratuities.

The authority urged people visiting Valletta to report any one carrying out parking attendant duties on Free-phone 80072393. All reports will be dealt with in the strictest confidence.
