Representatives of the Ghaqda tal-Malti – Università presented Education Minister Louis Galea a copy of the book Ghajdun il-Ghaqal, Kliem il-Gherf u Qwiel Maltin, which is a translation of Motti, Aforismi e Proverbii Maltesi.
They referred to the huge contribution Mikiel Anton Vassalli made to the Maltese language, with Dr Galea saying that today they could understand and appreciate much better what Vassalli had done with his Lexicon, in which he built the foundations for a language which for centuries had been neglected by the very people who spoke it.
The book is being issued in soft cover and in a limited special edition that is numbered, with a hard cover. More details may be obtained from [email protected].
Dr Galea was also presented with a copy of the book Viator Errans, the poetry of Sir George Borg collected in book form by his daughter Rose Mary Cachia. Sir George published four books: Weraq tar-Rand (1952), Omero (1953), L-Enejde (1953) and Sant’Iermu (1953).
Viator Errans is the nom de plume under which he published his works. Sir George Borg was Chief Justice and president of the Appeals Court. It was he who in September 1942, received on behalf of the people of Malta the George Cross from the Governor, Lord Gorg.
