The first phase of migration from St Luke’s to Mater Dei will kick off today when the management offices will start moving to Mater Dei. The process of moving the management offices is expected to last a few days and all should be in place and fully functional by next week. A good number of the management team will start operating from the new hospital as from tomorrow.

Yesterday Mater Dei management took over a whole block (A2) consisting of the management offices. The Mater Dei management led by Chief Executive Officer Marion Rizzo were handed over this area from FMS.

Today is a very important milestone as it represents the first area to be handed over from the Foundation of Medical Services, which was responsible for project completion, to the Mater Dei management team who are responsible for the running of this hospital and related services.

The other areas scheduled to be handed over to the Mater Dei Management in July include: Occupational Therapy, Clinical Psychologists, Parentcraft in Outpatients Block, and Physiotherapy.

A number of areas housing support services will also be handed over to Mater Dei Management in July such as the main entrance reception, the NGOs and union offices, retail services areas, IT and supplies departments.

The process of taking over will continue to unfold until the whole migration process is over.

The migration sequence is developing as planned. The next phase of migration will be the Outpatients Department followed by Inpatient services.

Mater Dei Hospital is expected to be fully functional by the end of the year.

Since the hospital inauguration on 29 June, there has been a thorough process of checking and ensuring that each and every room taken over by the Mater Dei management is certified as safe both for the patient and for staff. This process will take place for every area taken over by the Mater Dei management.
