Local Councils Association President rebuts claims

Malta Independent Friday, 20 July 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

The president of the Local Councils Association, Michael Cohen, strongly denied any irregularities in the appointment of former Malta Labour Party secretary general Jimmy Magro as the association’s executive secretary.

In a statement, Mr Cohen rebutted claims by Nationalist Party College of Councillors president Malcolm Mifsud. He challenged Dr Mifsud to state whether there were any irregularities in Mr Magro’s appointment, whether the process had been transparent and whether Justice Minister Tonio Borg had accepted the appointment.

Mr Cohen said the association has organised several events ever since a majority of MLP councillors took over the association’s helm. He said Dr Mifsud was just trying to stop the association from carrying out its duty.
