The letter by the chairman of the board of the Malta Environment and Planning Authority about the employment of Carmel Cacopardo as investigating officer in MEPA’s auditor’s office confirmed the insensitivity with which the authority was being run vis a vis those who carried out their duties properly, Roderick Galdes, Labour Party spokesman on the environment, said.

The pretext given by the chairman was against freedom of expression in a democratic society and in an organisation which was expected to tolerate constructive criticism about it.

Mr Galdes said that under Minister George Pullicino MEPA was being more partial on the eve of a general election when various persons who were doing their duty were being ignored or unjustly treated because of the opinions they held.
