The Malta contingent taking part in the 59th edition of the FISEC Games, arrived in Nyiregyhaza, Hungary yesterday afternoon and immediately underwent practice sessions after they settled in the Campus hotel in the city centre.
The swimmers, under the guidance of Gail Rizzo, trained in the pool near the hotel.
The athletes also took part in a training session at the Sostoi stadium, under coach Lara Gerada.
In this stadium, the Games’ openeing ceremony was held yetserday evening, with all athletes of the ten participating countries taking part.
The men’s Handball team as well as the table-tennis players held their practice in the Benczur Gyala sports hall.
The Maltese athletes immediately got familiar with the climate in Hungary, reported to be similar to Malta’s with temperatures reaching 36 degrees celsius.
The partipants of these Games come from Hungary, Portugal, Spain, France, Belgium, Flanders, England, Holland, Austria and Croatia, besides Malta.
the first Maltese athletes in action were the male Handball team, scheduled to play against Hungary yesterday in the opening day.
