The women's national team made its debut in the annual Interamia Cup which is held in Teramo, Italy. This was the 35th edition of the Tournament.

The baptism of fire for our girls was against the team from Finland -Syundea IF. It took a lot of time for the team to settle and the game drifted to an 18-9 score at the end.

The team then faced the strongest tem from Bosnia Katarina HC. Although the Maltese girls showed a lot of improvement from the first match the experience and talent of the Bosnian girls told at the end for 32-12 score.

In front of a large crowd in the main court of Teramo, the Maltese team played Jasberny from Hungary. A good performance by most of the players was evident but again Malta lost 28-14.

Our first points were won as two sides one from Senegal and another from Algeria did not turn up.

The fifth day was a memorable one for the Malta side as they faced the local side Teramo in front of a good crowd. After trailing by five goals by the first half, the Maltese girls rose to the occasion and managed to record the first ever away win by a Maltese women's team 19-18.

This win gave the Malta team the chance to play for 3rd and 4th place. Once again they had to face the strong Hungarian side and our team lost 28-14 to finish in the 4th place.

Coach Orlando Bonnici believes that this was a positive move for women's Handball in Malta. These Games helped the team to form a stronger bond which will improve the technical part. Teramo will undoubtedly help in creating a stronger side in future competitions. Malta also sent two referees, Thomas Degiorgio and Stefan Desira who both refereed a number of matches during the Tournament.
