Other Maltese representatives in UEFA Cup, Hibernians, suffered a heavy 5-1 defeat against FK Vojvodina yesterday when playing the away first leg of the first qualifying round.

Vojvodina’s hero was Ranko Despotic who scored a hat-trick. He gave his side a two goal lead on the 11th and 42nd minute and then scored again his side’s fifth goal in the dying minutes.

Hibernians conceded the third goal on the hour through Igor Djuric and Gojka Kacar made it 4-0 on 84 minutes.

Two minutes later though, Hibernians managed to pull a goal back as Udo Nwoko tucked away a penalty, only for the local side to concede a fifth goal which makes it very tough for the return leg in a fortnight’s time.
